CHURCHES AT OLD GOA
The churches in Old Goa stand as witnesses to the glorious era of the Portuguese Culture. Old Goa was the capital of Goa then, however now the capital of Goa is Panjim. Bom Jesus (Good or infant Jesus) is one of the old Churches and termed as Basilica which houses the relics of St. Francis Xavier who died in 1552. The body is neither embalmed or mummified for preservation.
On the right you can see the close up of the architectural Masterpiece. A masterpiece that depicts the Baroque architecture which was prevalent during the French revolution in the seventeenth century. The Church is made up of laterite stones.
At the bottom is a photograph of the silver casket embedded with precious stones which holds the relics of St Francis Xavier. Apparently, India has a lot of Xavier Schools, Colleges and Institutes named after this Saint.
Many of the Churches in Old Goa are of the Gothic style. There is also a Cathedral opposite this Basilica called the Se Cathedral. One can also watch the famous church of St. Agustine which is a replica of the St. Peter's Square Basilica in the Vatican City. This church is located next to the Viceroy's Arch which where the Viceroy's during the Portuguese regime would be handed a ceremonial key to this land at that time called Goesa.
FAMOUS DRINK OF GOA
CASHEW FENI
Feni is the third distillation of the Urrac, which constitutes alcohol of approximately 45%.
The traditional method of making cashew feni was that the cashew apples were crushed with legs to form a which were then tied by strings. A stone was placed on the top of the cake and there was an outlet to collect the juice. Nowadays, mechanized machines are used to crush the cashew apples instead.
The juice extracted is known as Neero.
Neero is sometimes used medicinally as a Laxative. The large earthern pot in which the Neero is collected is called the Kodem. This Kodem is buried in the ground untouched for several days to get the neero fermented.
Feni is still prepared traditionally in an earthen pot called bhatti. It contains an outlet with a collecting pot . Cold water is continuously on the long outlet pipe and this condensed liquid or distillate is collected.. The initial distillation, known as Urrac which approximates to around 15% alcohol, Urrac is considered as a social drink in Goa and used with Lemon Cordial. Urrac is available only during the summer season when the cashew fruits are abundantly available in Goa.

Goa is the smallest state in India and it boasts to host many of the International beaches catering to domestic and the International tourists. Goa is surrounded by the Sahyadri Mountains or more commonly called as the Western Ghats on 3 sides of Goa and the one side by the Arabian Sea. Although the Arabian Sea covers entire western coastal belt of Goa, known as the Konkan Coast, each beach is different and unique in its own way due to the ambiance of the place. The sand on the beaches of North are golden while on the south are white sands. Since Goa is the smallest state, for administration purpose Goa is divided in 2 parts, north Goa and south Goa. North Goa is known as the administrative capital and South Goa more for its commercial essence. The beaches in South Goa are less crowded and clean and suited more for family excursions. Lots of rides can be availed from the south Goa including fishing rides. On the other hand the beaches in North Goa are fully commercialized and sometimes overcrowded. The beaches in north are known for different types of water sports which includes dolphin rides, sightseeing by sea, para sailing and other adventure sports.. Foreign and domestic tourists are also dotted along the entire coast of North Goa. They are seen sunbathing on these beautiful beaches.
